From the moment we are pushed into this world we are forced to live within our condemned life, we have little choice in society as ultimately the majority is the decider. When we hear of a new movie coming out that has phenomenal reviews we’re immediately on our feet and out at the cinema ready to brag about seeing the latest blockbuster, but end up leaving disappointed by the lack originality and thrill that the screenplay offered, yet the majority loved it, society loved it and so we must also love it, mustn’t we?
These sorts of movies are the burnt toast of our society. They go into the toaster with the possibility of coming out perfect with just the right crunch, however the result can be tragic; if somewhere along the line a decision or a series of decisions were made leading to the poor misfortunate toast getting burnt. Take James Cameron’s AVATAR, it had the possibility of being magnificent yet, I was saddened by the predictable and clichéd story that offered little ecstasy to my life. Cameron has taken graphics to a new level I do not deny him that, but if he spent all the money that he did for the tale of Pocahontas with a substitute of blue people then I believe that was money badly spent. If you are given the provisions to create a masterpiece you should at least have a masterpiece at mind.
But once again, society; the majority loved AVATAR therefore I mustn’t! The ability to differentiate my opinions from societies allows me to break away from the condemned life does it not? Having an opinion that doesn’t echo that of others surely is the strongest in a large crowd shouting: please sir I want some more! What if I don’t want some more? What if I’m done wanting more? AVATAR highlighted to me that I have a voice that is out of tune and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. To be able to speak my mind is freedom, or as close as we’ll ever get to it. Speaking out of tune can be difficult, especially when the world seems against you but if you don’t do it your questions will never be answered as the only questions that are being asked are the ones that do not correspond with your mind!
