Giddens, Wright-Mills and McQuail need to go away. I can see their essays looking at me with a judgemental glare. I'm being intimidated in my own room. And McQuail's book is so unnecessarily big. I've read through it and can confidently say, "A portion of it is irrelevant".
I get what they're saying, but paraphrasing is hard. I tried it for my presentation today, but just found myself reading what I'd written down, almost word-for-word, which can't be good. Had it been an official presentation they'd have booted me for plagiarism. :O
I think I've managed to break down their arguments with as little reading effort as possible:
Giddens - Television has its uses, and can be viewed as a window to the world.
Wright-Mills - Die television! Die!
Giddens - It has a sound history of informing, entertaining and educating.
Wright-Mills - DIE!
Giddens - It can help with cultivation.
Wright-Mills - FETISHISM!
I reckon I'll do alright on this, it is only a formative essay and I've become slightly more efficient with my bullshitting.
